We all made a promise. A promise to care for our most vulnerable citizens: our children. To make sure they are safe and loved. To protect them so they can thrive.

But every year, 700,000 children are separated from their families due to abuse or neglect. Through no fault of their own, they must find their way through the overburdened maze of the welfare system—with little or no support.  

Sometimes a child in foster care is assigned a CASA volunteer—a Court Appointed Special Advocate. Someone who is trained to speak up for the child’s best interest. Someone who will ensure the child’s needs are met. Someone who has made a commitment to stick with the case until the child is placed in a safe, loving, permanent home.

But much more often a child does not get a CASA volunteer. Because with our current resources, CASA for Children is able to provide volunteers for only 35% of the children who need them.

That means 400,000 children are waiting.

That is a horrifying number. And it is why CASA for Children makes another promise.

We promise to find enough resources, enough volunteers, and enough critical mass to match every waiting child with a CASA volunteer by 2020.
